Washington D.C. (June 2, 2016) — During PAHO Foundation’s Board meeting on April 22, 2016, Dr. Esteban López was unanimously elected, along with Mr. Eduardo Pisani, to serve on the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
“I continue to be humbled and deeply grateful for the remarkable Board members at PAHO Foundation that dedicate such time and resources to ensure our mission is successful,” PAHO Foundation President & CEO Dr. Jennie Ward-Robinson said, ”Dr. López is an exceptional addition to the Board, and we are fortunate to have him, along with his in-depth knowledge of health systems, join our team.”
Dr. López brings a robust knowledge of the health sector from working in health insurance, healthcare delivery and Academia. His thought leadership roles in civic affairs, active participation in health associations and societies, and in education, complement his strong health background.
Dr. López currently serves as Regional President at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX), the state’s oldest and largest health insurer, where he oversees operations in major metropolitan areas in southwest Texas. Prior to this role, Dr. López was as a practicing physician within almost every hospital system in San Antonio, TX.
Extremely active in the local San Antonio community, Dr. López was recently named the 2017 Chair for the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He currently participates on the Chamber’s Executive Board of Directors and is Chair of the Chamber’s Healthcare and Bioscience Committee. Dr. López is also an active member on the Witte Museum Board of Trustees and the Mayor’s Fitness Council Executive Committee.
In addition to his board participation in various committees throughout the greater San Antonio area, Dr. López is also a member of the Bexar County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.
Academically, Dr. López is recognized as a National Health Service Corp Scholar, due to his work in San Antonio’s Westside underserved communities, and also as a Presidential Leadership Scholar, a fully underwritten program of pre-selected leaders who share a commitment to helping solve society’s greatest challenges.
Dr. López holds degrees from the University of California at Santa Cruz and Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine, in addition to a Master’s in Business Administration from a combined program at the University of Texas at Dallas and UT Southwestern School of Medicine. He is also dual board certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, and received his training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
