PAHO Foundation President and CEO Leads the November World Affairs Council of Atlanta Members Forum

Atlanta, GA (November 14, 2017) – PAHO Foundation President and CEO, Dr. Jennie Ward-Robinson, served as the featured speaker for this month’s World Affairs Council of Atlanta (WAC ATL)-hosted Members Forum, leading a thought-provoking discussion on “Post Disasters: Responses to Health and Other Threats in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

Dr. Ward-Robinson raised an engaging dialogue on the earthquakes in Mexico and Hurricanes Irma, Jose, and Maria's arrival in the Americas and the many immediate and long-term health implications that resulted. She additionally provided an overview on post-disaster responses, remaining critical infrastructure issues, and the need for cross-sectoral partnerships in rebuilding economic, public health, and medical service delivery systems to enable improved, sustainable health outcomes for people across the region. As Dr. Ward-Robinson explained, partnerships from the private- and public- sectors are crucial in leveraging needed resources to bolster responses to support community rebuilding, as a strategy to aid efforts safeguarding and advancing health for the most vulnerable communities. Dr. Ward-Robinson additionally shed light on the efforts being advanced by the Foundation and partners, issuing a call to partner from all participants in attendance, so needed work can be accomplished to effectively mitigate current and emerging health threats.
