PPP launched to improve prevention of women’s cancers and quality of cancer registries in Latin America and the Caribbean
PAHO Foundation and International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) combine efforts to improve breast and cervical cancer prevention and control. The partnership aims to improve understanding and practices among primary health care providers and patients for breast cancer screening and early detection as well as increase capacity of cancer registries in the region. Three-year joint project is receiving $600,000 funding from IFPMA as well as in-kind contributions such as communications and infrastructure supplies.
The Pan American Health Organization is in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during the Ebola outbreak and focused on strengthening the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region’s response. Yhe Pan American Health Organization's colleagues are providing technical expertise in the region and outlining a soon-to-be-released concept note on their activities and the estimated minimum of $5,000,000 USD that will be needed to complete their mission. As soon as details become available, individuals and corporations will be asked for leadership contributions of $500,000+ to support this effort.

PAHO Foundation, formerly known as PAHEF (Pan American Health and Education Foundation), works as the philanthropic arm of the Pan American Health Organization to mobilize resources and advocate the strategic agenda of the Pan American Health Organization. The Foundation welcomes Acha to this role and eagerly anticipates the leadership she will bring to achieving PAHO Foundation’s mission. In addition to her service on the Executive Committee, she participates on the Marketing and Communications Committee and is an inaugural member of the PAHO Foundation Salud Society.
Newly renamed PAHO Foundation will channel philanthropic support for health in the Americas
Washington D.C., May 2 2014 – A new “PAHO Foundation” announced today that it will mobilize resources for improving health in the Americas, in alignment with the Pan American Health Organization’s strategic priorities. The philanthropic organization, based in Washington, D.C., was formerly named PAHEF and was created to “combat disease, lengthen life, improve health care, foster research, and train health care workers in the region of the Americas.”

WASHINGTON, DC (September 30, 2013) – José Lima Pedreira de Freitas, MD, MPH of Brazil, was posthumously honored today as a recipient of the 2013 Sérgio Arouca Award for Excellence in Universal Health Care, for his key position in developing public health in Brazil. Presented by the Pan American Health Organization and the Pan American Health and Education Foundation (PAHEF), the award recognizes Dr. Pedreira de Freitas’ impact on young health professionals and programs affecting social and community medicine.
