    THE LANCET DIABETES AND ENDOCRINOLOGY PROFILES DR. ALAFIA SAMUELS, PAHO FOUNDATION’S CO-CHAIR OF THE FOUNDATION TECHNICAL ADVISORY GROUP

    Dr. Alafia Samuels, Director of the Chronic Disease Research Centre (CDRC) at the University of the West Indies in Barbados and the Co-Chair for PAHO Foundation’s Technical Advisory Group, is waging a war against obesity in the Caribbean, a major risk factor for NCD-related premature mortality in the United States.

    American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad & Tobago 20th Annual Health, Safety, Security & Environment Conference

    Port of Spain, Trinidad (November 8, 2016) During the American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad & Tobago 20th Annual Health, Safety, Security & Environment Conference, PAHO Foundation President and CEO, Dr. Jennie Ward-Robinson, delivered a lunch-time address on the need for a broader health commitment from the corporate sector beyond occupational health and safety. She underscored the growing socioeconomic impact of the leading health threats to the Americas region, including communicable and noncommunicable diseases, such as Zika and diabetes and the need for a higher level of corporate leadership and engagement to address these critical health concerns.

    PAHO Foundation Leadership Travels to Mexico City for a Partnership Visit

    Washington D.C. (July 13, 2016) — Graciously facilitated by valued FTAG member Mr. Hector Valle, PAHO Foundation was invited to Mexico City to meet with key health influencers and to scope out areas of potential need in the region.

    During their visit, PAHO Foundation met with public health leaders with backgrounds in pharma, academia, NGOs and government, including Canifarma, UNAM, Funsalud Foundation, the Ministry of Health, Merck and the INSP (National Institute of Public Health).

    PAHO Foundation Participates in the World Health Assembly 69

    Washington D.C. (July 7, 2016) — By the invitation of our valued new trustee, Eduardo Pisani, PAHO Foundation President and CEO, Dr. Ward-Robinson, served as a panelist during a World Health Assembly 69 (WHA69) satellite-event hosted by the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA).

    This event took place on the evening of May 23, 2016 and consisted of both a panel discussion titled “Zika & Ebola: How global health threats prompt innovation” and a proceeding cocktail party.

    PAHO Foundation Elects Dr. Esteban López to the Board of Trustees

    Washington D.C. (June 2, 2016) — During PAHO Foundation’s Board meeting on April 22, 2016, Dr. Esteban López was unanimously elected, along with Mr. Eduardo Pisani, to serve on the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

    PAHO Foundation Appoints Eduardo Pisani to the Board of Trustees

    Washington D.C. (May 27, 2016) —During PAHO Foundation’s Board meeting on April 22, 2016, Mr. Eduardo Pisani was unanimously elected, along with Dr. Esteban López, to serve on the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

    Reducing High Rates of Women’s Cancers in the English Caribbean: PAHO Foundation Sponsored Convening

    Washington D.C. (May 27, 2016) — In collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization, the University of Miami and the Breast Cancer Initiative 2.5, PAHO Foundation co-hosted a regional forum on May 11-May 12, 2016,  to convene thought leaders and stakeholders to improve the effectiveness of women’s cancer programs in the English Caribbean.

    By defining strategies and areas for support, and identifying potential partnership areas with key stakeholders and the international public health community, stakeholders and partners will be able to create stronger, more sustainable women’s cancer programs in the region.
